FORT DODGE — The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team finished off the 2022 season with a consolation game on Wednesday at the Rogers Sports Complex. The Hawks rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh, but came up a run short in the 5-4 loss to Mason City Newman Catholic.

Claire Schroeder led off the inning by reaching on an error from her spot at the top of the lineup. Halle Galles drew a walk and then Mya Bunkers and Carmindee Ricke followed with RBI base hits.

Jacie Homan brought home the next run on a ground out and Octavia Galles drove in the final run on a comebacker to the pitcher. Elwood was able to close out the game by getting a third straight ground out.

The Hawks gave eighth-grader Josie Schwickerath the ball in the circle and she went the full seven innings. After giving up four runs in the first two innings, she settled in and didn’t allow another run until the seventh.

Leadoff batter Emily Opstvedt led the Knights with a 3-for-4 game at the plate as she scored twice and drove in a run.

Bunkers and Tessa Tentinger led the Hawks with two hits apiece. RSM was held scoreless against Leah Martinez who tossed the first five innings.
