Watch out Fort Dodge, here we come

The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team clinched a trip to the state tournament for the second year in a row as they beat War Eagle Conference foe Akron-Westfield 6-2 in Monday’s (July 11) regional final contest in Remsen.

After giving up two runs on errors in the first inning, the Hawks answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and held the Westerners scoreless the rest of the way while adding insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Hawks (27-2) earn the No. 4 seed in the Class 1A state bracket. They will face No. 5 seed Southeast Warren (23-4) in a state quarterfinal game at Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
