MMCRU baseball ends season at Bishop Garrigan

ALGONA ó The MMCRU baseball team had their season come to an end Wednesday in a Class 1A district semifinal game. The Royals fell to Bishop Garrigan by a final score of 6-3.

Gunnar Johnson, Mitchell Schnepf and Colin Pick drove in the three runs for the Royals. Johnson and Pick each hit a single and Schnepf had the teamís only extra-base hit with a double.

Lucas Braun led the team with a pair of base hits and scored two of the three runs. Preston Astidias scored the other run as he had a single in the game.

The Royals scored two of the runs against Drew Fogarty who earned the win after going 3 1/3 innings on the mound. Hollis Bode pitched the other 3 2/3 innings and gave up the other run.

Michael Peterson took the loss for the Royals as he gave up five runs, two of which were earned, in three innings. The other run came home against KC Nicks who threw the other three innings. Both pitchers ended with a pair of strikeouts.

Bode drove in two runs for the Golden Bears on a pair of hits. Cal Birkey had the other multi-hit game. He hit a single and double, walked twice and drove in a run out of the leadoff spot. Garrett Heying and Drew Lappe added doubles for Garrigan.

The Golden Bears advanced to the district final with a record of 18-12.

MMCRU finishes the season with a 13-12 record. The Royals will say goodbye to seniors Brayden Dirks, Carson Pick, Eban Hicks, Colin Pick, Preston Astidias and Brett Staab.
