No. 11 Hinton softball moves to next round
HINTON — The Class 2A No. 11 ranked Hinton softball team moved past Sioux Central by a 9-4 score in a regional quarterfinal contest on Wednesday.
The game was tied 4-4 after four innings before Hinton scored five runs in the fifth to secure the victory.
“Tonight it was clear we had a week off,” Hinton Head Coach Jennifer Jacobs-List said as her team earned a bye into the quarterfinal round while Sioux Central opened with an 11-5 win over West Sioux. “We came out slower than we wanted and had to battle back. That being said we did finish and pick up the win. We will have to be better if we want to keep playing after Friday night.”
The heart of the order led the Blackhawks at the plate with the 3-4-5 batters, Jadyn Case, Madison Goosmann and Sara Schoenrock all getting a pair of hits. Goosmann led the team with a 2 RBI game as she also reached twice via walk. Case and Schoenrock added an RBI apiece as they joined Ashlyn Kovarna, Bailey Boeve and Aubree Lake as batters to drive in runs for the Blackhawks.
Hinton scored all of their runs against Berkley Johannsen who gave up eight hits and the same number of walks. She finished with five strikeouts while taking the loss in six innings in the circle.
