Akron-Westfield, MMCRU split softball, baseball games

AKRON ó Akron-Westfield and MMCRU split their baseball and softball contests on Wednesday. The Class 1A No. 14 ranked A-W softball team won 10-1 over the Royals as they scored in all six of their turns at the plate.

Alyssa Nemesio went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles while finishing with a 2 RBI game. Ciara Barron had the other 2 RBI game as she hit a single and had three sacrifices.

Taryn Wilken finished with three hits, two singles and a double, while Natalie Olson, Chloee Colt and Josie Jacobs all finished with two hits.

The team scored all of their runs against Isabelle Olson who went five innings. Kaleigh Gravenish pitched the other inning for the Royals.

Megan Meinen struck out seven in the full seven inning win as she gave up just one run on three hits and a walk.

Emily Dreckman drove in the lone run of the game as she had one of the three hits. Olson and Mya Holmes picked up the other two singles.

Akron-Westfield improved to 13-3 with the win. MMCRU fell to 10-8 with the loss. The Westerners won the earlier meeting this season by an 8-1 score.

MMCRU baseball wins in extras

The MMCRU baseball team won a 3-2 game in eight innings over Akron-Westfield. The Westerners won the first meeting of the season by a 16-6 score in six innings, but the one run game marked the third time in the last four meetings the game has been decided by just one run.

Michael Peterson had 2 RBI in the win for the Royals. KC Nicks knocked home the go-ahead run in the eighth.

Aric Allard took the tough luck loss as he went the full eight innings on the mound for the Westerners. He gave up three runs and ended with six strikeouts.

Nicks earned the win on the mound as he pitched five innings of scoreless relief. He struck out four.

Michael Peterson pitched the first three innings and gave up two runs.

Raiden Ericson and Connor Wendel had the RBIs for the Westerners. Ericson didnít have a hit, but drew three free passes in the game. Wendel reached on a single and walk.

Tyson Fairbanks hit a double for the teamís only extra-base hit.

MMCRU improved to 6-9 with the win. Akron-Westfield fell to 10-8 with the loss.
