Hinton beats Trinity Christian by double digits

HINTON — The Hinton baseball and softball teams won by double digits over Trinity Christian on Wednesday.

The Blackhawks won the baseball game by a 12-0 score in five innings. Hinton scored eight in the first and four in the third.

Nine different players recorded a hit for the Blackhawks. Carter Worden, Gavin Nelson, Ty Ridgway and Brody Spies all had two hits for the team in the win. Ridgway had the lone extra-base hit with a double. He joined Nelson and Glen Carlson with 2 RBI apiece.

Nelson pitched the five inning complete game with 12 strikeouts. He scattered a few hits to the Tigers. Alec DeBoer took the loss with 12 runs allowed, four of which were earned, while ending with three strikeouts.

The win was the 11th in a row for Hinton as they improved to 13-2. Trinity dropped their sixth straight as they fell to 1-9.

The Hinton softball team won 11-1 in six innings over the Tigers. Madison Goosmann led the team with a 3 RBI game as she had a home run and double for her two hits. It was her second home run of the season.

Kenedi Spies and Aubree Lake added 2 RBI games as they each had two singles. Bella Badar reached on two singles and a walk out of the leadoff spot and drove in a run. She also scored twice.

The runs scored against Maesa Cleveringa who took the loss in the circle for the Tigers. Emily Small pitched the win for the Blackhawks as she struck out seven and gave up an unearned run.

“Tonight was a good team win over Trinity,” Hinton softball coach Jennifer Jacobs-Small said. “We continued to hit the ball well, played solid defense, and got a good outing from our pitcher. We played kids in other spots and they stepped up.”

Hinton improved to 12-8 with the win. Trinity fell to 1-9 with the loss.
