MMCRU sweeps games from George-Little Rock
MARCUS/CLEGHORN — The magic number was 12 for the MMCRU baseball and softball teams on Tuesday in non-conference action against George-Little Rock. The Royals won 12-0 in five innings in the softball game and 12-2 in five innings in the baseball game.
The MMCRU baseball team snapped a six game losing skid with the win. The Royals scored seven in the second, one in the third and finished with four in the fifth to conclude early.
Leadoff hitter Gunnar Johnson reached on three hits and was hit by a pitch to help set the table for the team. He came around to score twice and also drove in a run.
Branden Whited had two singles and Carson Pick reached on a single and triple as the other multi-hit games for for the team. Pick and Mitchell Schnepf ended with 2 RBI games for the Royals.
MMCRU scored against four different pitchers. The team got seven of their runs against Micah Jumbeck who took the loss.
Colin Pick gave up two unearned runs on two hits and three walks in his five inning complete game. He finished with nine strikeouts.
MMCRU improved to 5-9 with the win. G-LR fell to 1-10 with the loss.
The MMCRU softball team scored three runs in each of the first four innings in their 12-0 win.
Taylor Harpenau led the team with a 3 RBI game. Isabelle Olson, Mya Holmes and Jordan Staab added 2 RBI apiece.
The team scored nine of their runs against Kami Gerken and three more against Mya Storm.
Olson gave up just one hit in the shutout win in the circle. Alexis Landis reached on a single as the lone hit for the Mustangs. Olson struck out two in the victory.
MMCRU improved to 10-7 with the win. G-LR fell to 1-9 with the loss.
