Bunkers throws perfect game for RSM baseball, softball wins on walk-off
REMSEN — The Remsen St. Mary’s baseball and softball teams won their games over South O’Brien on Wednesday.
The Class 1A No. 1 ranked baseball team got a perfect game from Jaxon Bunkers in a 15-0 win in four innings. Bunkers got out all 12 batters he faced including four via strikeout.
The offense exploded for 10 runs in the first and scored five more in the fourth to finish off the contest early.
Eight different players picked up RBIs for the Hawks. Carter Schorg, Ryan Willman, Cael Ortmann, Hunter Pick and Bunkers all ended with 2 RBI games.
Willman and Bunkers had the two multi-hit performances as nine different players recorded a hit, part of the 11 in the game. The team also drew eight walks, two hit-by-pitches and reached on an error.
The Hawks improved to 19-0 with the win. South O’Brien fell to 1-11 with the loss.
Softball rallies for win
The Class 1A No. 7 ranked Remsen St. Mary’s softball team came close to their first loss of the season, but rallied for three runs in the seventh to come away with a 4-3 walk-off win.
Jacie Homan capped off a 4-for-4 game at the plate with the walk-off hit as she ended with 3 RBI. The game-winner came with the bases loaded and two outs with the team trailing 3-2 in their final at-bat in the seventh.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a single, a few errors and a sacrifice fly leading to the runs.
RSM got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on an error prior to their late rally. Claire Schroeder had the other multi-hit game with two singles for the Hawks. Octavia Galles and Jordyn Harpenau had a single apiece for the team.
Grace Fuhrman took the loss in the circle with three strikeouts. Marina Cronin ended up securing the win with five strikeouts. The runs against each pitcher were all unearned.
RSM improved to 15-0 with the win. South O’Brien slipped to 4-11 with the loss.
