Lady Jays win high-scoring affair over Woodbury Central
LE MARS — The Gehlen Catholic softball team emerged victorious in a high-scoring 11-10 game over Woodbury Central in non-conference action Tuesday.
Leading 8-4 after four innings, the Wildcats pulled in front with five in the fifth before the Jays answered with three in the bottom of the inning and held on after the Wildcats scored one more in the sixth.
Alyssa Kolbeck and Haley Lubben led the team with three hits apiece, two singles and a double for each, while Larissa Pohlen, Jayden Barthole and Ellie Arens all ended with a pair of singles.
All nine batters in the starting lineup came around to score at some point during the game.
Addie Konz pitched the win as she went 5 2/3 innings. She gave up 10 runs, six of which were earned, and struck out four. Rylee Schnepf closed out the game with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.
The win was the sixth in a row for Gehlen as they improved to 9-5. Woodbury Central fell to 6-8 with the loss. This was the second time the two teams have met this season with the Jays winning both games by one run.
