Lady Jays beat Trinity to win fifth in a row

HULL The Gehlen Catholic softball team won their fifth straight game on Monday in a War Eagle Conference contest at Trinity Christian. The Jays rallied to win by a final score of 6-2.

Trinity Christian scored two runs in the first inning as Ava Brummel and Avery Van Maanen knocked in the runs for the team.

Gehlen was held scoreless until the fifth inning when they pushed across their first run. The team followed with four in the sixth and added one more in the seventh.

The team reached on seven hits and eight walks in the contest with three bases-loaded walks in the sixth inning bringing home runs.

Kenzi Alesch walked three times out of the leadoff spot and drove in a run. Haley Lubben reached on a pair of walks while Jayden Barthole, Ellen Hunt and Ellie Arens drew free passes in the game.

Larissa Pohlen had the lone multi-hit game with a single and double.

The team scored five of their runs against starter Maesa Cleveringa who lasted five innings. The other run scored against Makiah De Jager who tossed two innings.

Rylee Schnepf shook off the first inning of giving up two runs and clamped down after that as she finished with 15 strikeouts in the seven innings in earning the win for the Jays.

Gehlen improved to 8-5 on the season while Trinity falls to 0-8.
