RSM baseball defeats MMCRU, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn
REMSEN ó The Class 1A top-ranked Remsen St. Maryís baseball team earned wins over War Eagle Conference foes MMCRU and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
The Hawks beat MMCRU by a 5-0 score on Friday. It was a scoreless game through the first three innings before the Hawks scratched across two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Collin Homan hit a 2 RBI single in the fourth to break the scoreless tie. An RBI double for Carter Schorg and a sacrifice fly from Cael Ortmann extended the lead to 4-0 after five. A sacrifice fly from Isaiah Gerrietts brought home the final run for the Hawks in the sixth.
Carson Pick pitched the complete game for the Royals and took the loss. He gave up the five runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three.
Carter Schorg pitched the shutout for the Hawks. After giving up a single to Gunnar Johnson to start the game, Schorg didnít give up another hit the rest of the contest. He issued three free passes and a couple runners reached base on errors, but otherwise Schorg was in control for most of the game. He finished with eight strikeouts.
MMCRU fell to 4-8 with the loss. Remsen St. Maryís improved to 18-0 with the win.
Gerrietts throws no-hitter
HARTLEY ó Isaiah Gerrietts threw a no-hitter in the teamís 15-0 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in five innings Monday. Aside from a walk to Keith DeBoer in the second inning, Gerrietts was perfect in the contest. He was able to get four strikeouts in the win.
The offense backed him up for runs in all five innings. The team scored five in the first, four in the second and third, and one in the fourth and fifth.
The team reached on 13 hits and five walks. Carter Schorg and Alex Schroeder both ended the night with 3-for-3 games at the plate. Schorg had 1 RBI out of the leadoff spot and Schroeder finished with a 2 RBI night. Gerrietts helped his own cause with a 2 RBI game as he was one of five players to hit a double.
The team scored 13 runs against starter Evan Eilers and two more against Nick Bronstad.
H-M-S dropped to 2-9 with the loss. Remsen St. Maryís improved to 19-0 with the win.
