Hinton baseball wins tourney, Blackhawks sweep South O’Brien

GUTHRIE CENTER — The Hinton baseball team won a tournament hosted by Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center on Saturday.

The Blackhawks won 9-1 over Central Decatur. Hinton jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the first and two in the second. The Cardinals scored their only run in the fifth while the Blackhawks pushed across their final run in the sixth.

Glen Carlson and Owen Eli led the team with 2 RBI games. Carlson had a double and Eli finished with a single and sacrifice fly.

Jarrett Kirwan, Carter Worden and Easton Stusse also had RBIs for the team.

The team scored all of their runs against Jaydan Broich who took the loss after giving up nine hits and walks. He struck out four Blackhawks.

Gavin Nelson pitched the win with eight strikeouts in six innings. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk as Broich brought home the run on a sacrifice fly.

Beau Cook finished off the game with a scoreless inning of work with two strikeouts.

Hinton beat the host team ACGC by a 10-7 score.

Nelson led the team with three hits, two singles and a double, as he had 2 RBI. Carlson added a 2 RBI game for the team. Four others drove in a run apiece.

Dylan DeVries had one of those RBIs as he reached on a pair of singles, two hit-by-pitches and a walk. The Blackhawks had as many walks as hits with eight apiece.

The team got six of their runs against starter Alex Spack and four more against Noah Kading as the Chargers ended up using four different pitchers in the six innings.

Hinton split their pitching up between three in seven innings. Carlson earned the win as he struck out seven in three innings. Five of the runs allowed scored against him on four hits and three walks. The other two runs came home against Cook who walked three and gave up two hits in his two innings on the mound. Dylan Hartman threw two scoreless frames while striking out four.

Reid Rumelhart hit a home run for the Chargers in the loss as he and Charlie Crawford led the host school with 2 RBIs apiece.

Hinton improved to 11-2 with the wins.

Earn double digit wins over Wolverines

PAULLINA — The Hinton baseball and softball teams won their games over South O’Brien in War Eagle Conference action Monday.

The Hinton baseball team won 11-0 in the full seven innings. The team scored runs in six of their seven turns at the plate.

Dylan DeVries led the team at the plate with a 4-for-4 game with four singles and a walk. He ended with 3 RBI.

Beau Cook had two singles and a double and ended with 2 RBI. Gavin Nelson added 2 RBI with a double and Ty Ridgway hit a single and double and also had a 2 RBI game.

Dylan Hartman tossed a complete game shutout for the Blackhawks. He struck out 12 batters in the game while scattering two hits and three walks.

The win was the 10th in a row for the Blackhawks who moved to 12-2 on the season. South O’Brien fell to 1-11.

The Hinton softball team beat South O’Brien 14-2 in the full seven innings.

The Blackhawks scored in five of the seven innings in the win and never trailed after scoring three in the top of the first.

Madison Goosmann led the team with a 3-for-4 game at the plate with 3 RBI. She reached on two singles, a double and also got a free pass.

Emily Small went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a single. Bella Badar had the other multi-hit game with a pair of singles as she also reached via walk.

Jadyn Case struck out nine in the complete game win in the circle. She gave up two unearned runs on five hits and two walks.

Hinton improved to 9-8 with the win. South O’Brien fell to 4-10 with the loss, their fifth in a row.
