Gehlen baseball building momentum in middle of season
The Gehlen Catholic baseball team is building momentum in the middle of the season as they have won six of their last seven games.

GRANVILLE — The Jays hosted Harris-Lake Park and won by an 11-0 score in five innings Friday in War Eagle Conference action. The team had an outburst of nine runs in the second inning and scored two more in the fourth.
Gabe Wiltgen hit a home run for the Jays as he was one of two players to have a 2 RBI game. Carter Kellen had the other 2 RBI game as he hit a single and had a sacrifice fly in the contest.
Ryan Livermore, Keaton Logan and Zayne Weiland added multi-hit games for Gehlen.
David Begnoche pitched the win as he struck out five in the five innings. He gave up just two hits and two walks while holding the Wolves scoreless.
Split West Lyon doubleheader
LARCHWOOD — Gehlen and West Lyon split a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday in a pair of competitive contests. The Jays won one of the games by a 4-1 score. West Lyon pushed across their lone run in the third inning before the Jays got all four of their runs in the sixth.
Logan and Kellen ended with 2 RBI apiece for the team in the win. Logan had a double in the game and Kellen singled in the win.
The runs all came against Kael Blauwet who took the loss after striking out six in 5 1/3 innings.
The Wildcats got a run against Connor Kraft who pitched the complete game win for the Jays. He struck out seven. Dawson Ripperda drove in the lone run for the Wildcats.
West Lyon took the other game of the doubleheader by a 4-3 score. Gehlen jumped out to a 2-0 lead after an inning before the Wildcats scored three in the second and one in the third. Gehlen got their last run in the fifth.
The Jays were led by a 2 RBI game from Ryan Augustine who walked and hit a double in the contest. Logan drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly. Lehmann and Begnoche ended with two singles apiece in the loss.
West Lyon went with a committee approach on the mound with four different pitchers. Tyler Kock earned the win with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.
Livermore pitched the full six innings for the Jays and ended up taking the loss. Of the four runs allowed, three were earned on nine hits and three walks. He struck out two.
HULL — The Jays won 14-3 over Trinity Christian in five innings on Monday in War Eagle Conference action.
Gehlen scored four in the first and seven in the third as their big innings. They added one in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Augustine had the big bat for the Jays as he ended with 6 RBI. He hit a home run and double for his two hits in the game and also reached on a walk.
Kraft added a 2 RBI game with a pair of singles. Kellen had the other multi-hit game for the team as he drove in a run with a single and double and also reached on a hit-by-pitch.
The team jumped on starter Isaiah Brummel for 11 of their runs and scored three more against Alec DeBoer.
Three pitchers took the mound for the Jays. Weiland earned the win as he went three innings and struck out five. He didn’t allow a hit and gave up just one walk.
Begnoche gave up a run in one inning of relief as he struck out two, walked two and gave up a hit. Kellen threw the other inning, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks. Kellen struck out one.
After the stretch of games, Gehlen sports an overall record of 9-7.
