Gehlen sweeps games from South O’Brien

PAULLINA — Gehlen Catholic won a pair of games over South O’Brien on Wednesday in War Eagle Conference action.

The Jays won the baseball game by a final score of 11-3.

Connor Kraft led the team with a 3 RBI game as he had a single, double and home run.

Zayne Weiland also hit a home run for the Jays as he ended with 2 RBI. Ryan Livermore picked up 2 RBI with a pair of singles.

The Jays went with a committee approach on the mound as four pitchers threw for the team. Livermore went three innings with seven strikeouts. All three runs were allowed by Livermore. Weiland tossed two innings and struck out two. Carter Kellen struck out three in 1 2/3 innings and David Begnoche struck out the only batter he faced.

Gehlen improved to 6-6 with the win. South O’Brien fell to 1-9 with the loss.

Lady Jays edge out win

The Gehlen softball team edged out a 2-1 win over the Wolverines.

South O’Brien struck first for a run in the second inning. Grace Fuhrman reached on a double and was driven in by Karlee Warnke.

That was about the extent of the offense for the team as they ended with just four hits and a walk against Rylee Schnepf, who pitched the win while recording 11 strikeouts.

The Jays rallied with two outs in the fourth to push across their two runs. Jayden Barthole and Haley Lubben picked up the RBIs for the team.

Fuhrman took the loss as she struck out four in seven innings.

South O’Brien fell to 4-6 while Gehlen improved to 4-5.
