MMCRU splits with Unity
CLEGHORN/MARCUS — The MMCRU softball and baseball teams faced Unity Christian on Wednesday with each school winning one of the games in War Eagle Conference action.
The Royals were victorious in the softball game by a 5-0 score. The team scored one in the first, three in the second and one in the third as the rest of the game was scoreless.
Taylor Harpenau hit a home run for the Royals and led the way with a 2 RBI game. Emily Dreckman led the team with two hits, both singles, to drive in a run. Jordan Staab had the other RBI for the team.
The five runs came against Paige De Boom who took the loss. Four of the five runs were earned.
Isabelle Olson pitched the win for the Royals as she struck out six in the complete game shutout. She scattered four hits, two walks and a hit batter throughout the seven innings.
MMCRU improved to 8-4 with the win. Unity slipped to 3-6 with the loss.
Baseball loses fourth straight
The MMCRU baseball team continued to struggle as they fell 10-0 in six innings to Unity. The Knights struck for one in the first, five in the second, two in the third and pushed across two more in the sixth to reach the run-rule margin.
James Bouma led the Knights with a 3 RBI game as he was 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles and a triple. Braedan Bosma added a 2 RBI game on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. Three others had an RBI apiece.
Jacob Van Donge pitched the win as he held the Royals scoreless with just three hits, a walk and a hit batter in the game. He struck out six.
MMCRU fell to 4-7 with the loss. Unity improved to 3-7 with the win.
