MMCRU goes 5-0 at West Monona tourney
ONAWA — The MMCRU volleyball team got some of their mojo back after a tough week which included War Eagle Conference losses to Akron-Westfield and Hinton. The Royals came away with a 5-0 weekend at a tournament hosted by West Monona, winning all but one of the matches by 2-0 sweeps.
The closest match was a 2-1 win over Logan-Magnolia with two of the three sets decided by the minimum two points. Lo-Ma won the first set 22-20 before the Royals answered with wins of 21-16 and 15-13.
Emily Dreckman topped the team with 13 kills, followed by Ellie Hilbrands with seven. Dreckman added 15 digs and five blocks. Kora Alesch led the team with 16 digs and two ace serves.
MMCRU took down the host school by a 23-21, 21-15 score. Hilbrands was the top attacker against the Spartans with nine kills. She also finished with 10 digs which was one behind team leader Alesch. Dreckman and Alesch each had two ace serves.
MMCRU won 21-12, 21-11 over Boyer Valley, 21-14, 21-11 over Woodbine and 21-10, 21-3 over West Harrison. Statistics from those matches were unavailable.
MMCRU finished the day with a 9-4 overall record.
