Gehlen advances one to All-State Speech
LE MARS — One Gehlen Catholic Large Group Speech entry has been awarded All-State status, after competing at the State Large Group Speech contest Feb. 6 in Le Mars.
The Gehlen Catholic One Act received the All-State nomination for their performance of “Purple Ink.” Members of the varsity group are, Lillian Harpenau, Josie Scheitler, Raine Foreman, Emily Klein, Patricia Sitzmann and Ashlyn Bollin.
“The girls are thrilled to have been selected and to represent Gehlen in this way,” said Speech Coach Laurie Kellen.
Kellen and Mark Morehead serve as speech coaches.
“Mr. Morehead and I congratulate this group on their hard work and dedication throughout this challenging season. With each performance, they improved and their hard work has paid off. We are very proud to be able to add another All-State banner, in honor of these ladies, to the wall in the gym,” Kellen said.
Gehlen had 12 entries compete at the state contest.
To be chosen for All-State, two judges needed to nominate the group(s) to be considered All-State.
The Gehlen students were able to do their performances live, while other schools presented their entries virtually.
