Panthers split at River Valley
CORRECTIONVILLE — A matchup between the undefeated Class 1A No. 4 ranked Kingsley-Pierson girls basketball team and the winless River Valley team ended about as expected in Western Valley Conference action Tuesday with the Lady Panthers earning a 68-28 win. The Panthers improved to 15-0 while the Wolverines fell to 0-11.
K-P shot 53 percent from the field in a fairly balanced scoring attack with just two players in double digits.
Brooklyn Beery finished with 14 points and McKenzie Goodwin scored 12 as the two in double digits for the team.
Chloe Peschau added nine points while Abbi Bailey, Halle Collins and Rachel Bohle tallied seven apiece as the team earned their 18th straight win over River Valley dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Maddie Thomas scored half of River Valley’s points as she led her team with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Panthers led early in the boys game by holding a 9-5 advantage after a quarter, but River Valley outscored their foe 13-2 in the second quarter and went on to win by a 43-32 score.
Garrett Trapp did most of the damage for the Wolverines as he finished with 30 points, nine rebounds and three steals which led the team in all three categories.
The scoring for the Panthers was more scattered around with seven players combining for the team’s 32 points which resulted in nobody reaching double digits. Derek Reinking came closest with eight points and the same number of rebounds to top the Panthers in both categories.
Conner Beelner added six points while Malakie Christophersen had five.
The K-P boys fell to 5-9 with the loss while River Valley improved to 6-4.
