Le Mars boys combine for perfect Baker game in sweep of West
LE MARS — The Le Mars Community bowling teams started off 2021 with a bang in a pair of wins over Sioux City West in Missouri River Activities Conference action Monday at Sweet 16 Lanes.
The Le Mars boys scored 3,095 points as they beat the Wolverines by over 600.
The highlight of the day came in the Baker rounds where the team of Isaac Thompson, Zach Dempster, Trevor Fischer, Tyler Sundt, Caden Wurth and Jack McInnis combined for a perfect game of 300.
“Yes a 300. Never been done here and so cool to see!” Le Mars coach Kellie Bork said.
The team had no Baker game scores in the 200s, but three were in the 190s.
Individually, Sundt came close to a perfect game of his own. Aside from a spare in one of his frames, he scored strikes on each of his other rolls as he scored a 280 first game.
It is the highest individual game score for the Bulldogs since the 2019 state qualifying meet where Bryce Timp set the school record with a 289. He is just the second in school history to bowl a game of at least 280.
Sundt had the second best series score as his other game trailed the first as he finished with a 440 series with 160 second game.
Wurth ended slightly better with an overall series score of 445 with games of 236 and 209. He was the only player on the team to have both games over 200.
Fischer ended with the third series over 400 with games of 227 and 181 totaling 408.
Thompson ended nine short of a 400 series with games of 210 and 181.
The Le Mars girls also eclipsed a 3,000 team score by nine points, easily beating the 1,126 total from West.
Kaitelin Konz had the top individual game with a 251 and finished second in the series scores with a 422. She was six points behind Sam Schiefen who had the team’s best series score with games of 234 and 194.
Emily Peters had a pair of games at 200 or better with a 221 in her first and an even 200 for a total pin score of 421.
Alyssa Williams and Olivia Schiefen were just short of posting series scores in the 400s. Williams scored a 397 while Schiefen was two pins behind that.
The girls were pretty consistent with their Baker games with four of the five ranging from 175 to 180. The outlier was a 236 total in their final rotation.
Le Mars is scheduled to host Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on Monday at Sweet 16 Lanes in another MRAC competition.
