Four-peat for WC-KP girls at WVC meet
ONAWA ó For the fourth straight year, the WC-KP girls cross country team claimed the Western Valley Conference title.
Saturdayís race saw Erika Kuntz reclaim her individual WVC title after a one-year absence from the top spot. The junior won the race with a time of 20:42.24. She won the title two years ago, but dropped to second place last year.
Three other WC-KP runners were within the top six. Sarah Putze was third in a time of 21:13.21. Sarahy Hamman was next as she was 12 seconds behind Putze.
Mary Putze was the teamís next runner with a sixth place time of 21:34.42.
Kalyn Cameron rounded out the teamís counting five as she finished 11th in a time of 22:45.14. The team also had the next two times as Lillian Ofert was five seconds back of Cameron and Hanna Rogers was another five seconds off that pace.
In the boys portion, Eric and Sam Brannon helped Siouxland Christian to the conference title. Eric Brannon, who won two years ago but came in third place last year, was back on top his senior year with a winning time of 17:13.55. The Eagles won the team title for the second straight season.
WC-KPís Tristen Jessen was fourth in the race with a time of 18:12.98. Teammate Collin Verschoor ended 12th in 19:30.16.
Carson Seuntjens posted a 25th place time of 20:41.16 while Marshall Benson was 10 spots behind in 21:28.31. WC-KPís final counting runner was Caedon Colbert who was 47th in 23:36.25. The WC-KP boys were fifth out of six complete teams in the standings.
WC-KP will compete in the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Orange City on Thursday.
