K-P matches season scoring high in homecoming win over GT/RA
KINGSLEY — The Kingsley-Pierson football team matched their season high in scoring Friday in their homecoming win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The Panthers won 41-6 in the 8-player District 1 matchup.
Damon Schmid did a little bit of everything as he found the end zone in multiple ways. He caught six passes for 90 yards including a 20-yard scoring pass. Defensively, he had two interceptions including one he returned for a touchdown. He also scored on a 76-yard kickoff return. While he didn’t score a rushing touchdown, he did rush for 58 yards on eight carries.
The rushing scores instead went to Josh Harvey and Jackson Howe. Harvey scored on a 60-yard play, making up nearly half of his 134 total yards on 12 carries. Howe got a couple goal line keeps for scores as he ended with 22 yards on seven carries. Howe also completed 10-of-16 passes for 144 yards.
Emerson Pratt and Dustin Plendl tied for the team lead with 10.5 tackles.
GT/RA did find the scoreboard for the first time in three weeks but dropped to 1-4 for the season. The lone score came on a 22-yard run for quarterback Drew Schnell who finished with 61 yards on 16 carries. He also completed 10-of-19 passes for 55 yards but was picked off twice. Cormick Currans led the Titans with 115 yards rushing on 29 carries.
K-P earns their first win over GT/RA after losing their initial two meetings in 2016 and 2017.
The Panthers have evened their overall record at 3-3 and are 3-2 in district play. The team will close their regular season on the road at Remsen St. Mary’s on Friday.
