Raff new Postmaster for Remsen
With the retirement of Helen Kuehl at the end of June, Remsen needed a new Postmaster to take the helm at the Remsen Post Office. David Raff is that Postmaster ready to take up the challenge of running the Remsen Post Office.
Raff’s first day serving the people of Remsen was July 20, 2020. He officially became the Remsen Postmaster on July 18, 2020. As the Postmaster, Raff manages the day-to-day operations of the Post Office for the community of Remsen. He joins the Remsen Post Office team, which consists of clerks, Jeanie and Bethene; regular rural carrier, Tom; and sub, Ashley.
Starting his career in the Postal Service as a city letter carrier on January 2, 1999 at the Sioux City Post Office, Raff has moved up the ranks to get where he is today. He became a Supervisor of Customer Services in Sioux City on January 7, 2006. He has since served as the Postmaster in the following cities, Alta on June 19, 2010; Sergeant Bluff on October 6, 2012; Akron on March 3, 2018; and finally, Remsen on July 18, 2020.
Major changes that Raff has noticed in the Postal Service since he first started include, “All the new technology and the increase in package volume over the years.”
Raff has a few memorable moments during his time at the Post Office so far, “I have quite a few over the years from getting chased by dogs while being a city letter carrier to being selected for the different Postmaster positions I’ve been awarded.”
Besides the Postal Service, Raff has served his country by working in the military, “I served four years in the United States Marine Corps from September 1989 to September 1993. I served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm with 1st Tank Battalion. I served 19 years in the Iowa Air National Guard in Sioux City from March 2000 to March 2019, when I officially retired from military duty.”
Raff and his wife, Wendy, live in Dakota City, Nebraska. They have three children, Shyanne, age 22; Haylee, age 17; and Brody, age 14.
His hobbies include boating, fishing and camping.
When asked about how his experience working in Remsen has been going so far, he answered, “It’s been going well. The people have been great.”
