With the retirement of Cheryl Cronin, Geri Lynn Schroeder, ARNP -C (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner - Certified), will be seeing patients full-time at the Floyd Valley Remsen Clinic.

Schroeder has been working at the Remsen Clinic part-time since 2013, “I have been staffing the Remsen Clinic part-time since Dr. Duncan left in June 2013 but will be expanding my hours at the Remsen Clinic beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2020. We will continue to have the services of Dr. Powell and Dr. Odens in Remsen as well.”

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Briar Cliff College and went on to obtain a Masters in Nursing from South Dakota State University in 1996. Schroeder stated, “I am certified as a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner. I have worked as a family nurse practitioner for the past 24 years in numerous family practice clinics including, Dr. Stephen Veit’s practice in Cherokee, Family Practice in Denison, Cherokee Regional Medical Clinics, Medical Associates of Le Mars and now Floyd Valley Healthcare since 2009.”

Schroeder lives in Oyens and has four children, “My husband, Roger, and I live on a farm south of Oyens. Roger farms with his brothers and father. We have four children and one grandchild. My oldest daughter, Stephanie, is married to Jeff Wagenaar, and they both work in healthcare in Iowa City. Their daughter, Lena, was born in August, making me a grandma for the first time. My oldest son, Zach, works as a physical therapist in Omaha, Neb. My younger daughter, Bethany, is teaching middle school math at George-Little Rock, and my youngest son, Ben, is in graduate school for his Masters in Athletic Training at South Dakota State University.”

When not working, Schroeder explained how she likes to spend her spare time, “I love to spend time with my family. In my spare time, I enjoy flower gardening, kayaking, boating, fishing, playing cards and traveling.”

One memorable moment stands out for Schroeder during her time at Floyd Valley so far, “Probably the most memorable moment I have had while working at Floyd Valley is when I was first employed by Medical Associates in Le Mars. One of our co-workers lost her battle with breast cancer and the doctors who owned the clinic at that time honored her by closing the clinic and we all attended the funeral together. I think this showed me not only the spiritual commitment to the staff but the teamwork that was so important to the vision of their practice. I truly feel like a member of the family as part of the Floyd Valley Team.”

Schroeder is looking forward to being full-time at the Remsen Clinic, “I am excited to be at the Remsen Clinic as I love the small town atmosphere, and I enjoy getting to know patients and their families. Family practice is a perfect fit for me because I love variety, and I enjoy seeing people of all ages. My staff and I will strive to provide you great care. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and hopefully new patients as well!”
