RSM rolls past River Valley
REMSEN — The Remsen St. Mary’s football team doesn’t look like they’ve skipped a beat as they opened the 2020 season under first-year Head Coach Tim Osterman with a 56-20 win over River Valley on Friday. Osterman was an assistant coach with the program for several seasons prior to taking over the head coaching job.
The Hawks got out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and never were in danger of losing their lead.
Three different players found the end zone rushing the ball for the team, led by a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Blaine Harpenau and running back Jeremy Koenck. Harpenau ended with 101 rushing yards on 13 carries while Koenck added 63 yards on 11 touches. Koenck added another touchdown on a 70-yard kick return. Brenden Fisch scored the other rushing touchdown on a 17-yard carry and had four punt returns for 84 yards.
Harpenau added two more touchdowns through the air, connecting with Koenck for a 33-yard score and with Jaxon Bunkers for a 13-yard touchdown. Harpenau ended 8-of-15 passing for 102 yards with the two touchdowns and an interception.
Bunkers led the defense with 8.5 tackles, followed by Koenck with 6.5 in the game. Ryan Willman and Austin Jensen each picked off a pass.
RSM has now won four in a row against the Wolverines and are 7-1 against them dating back to 2010.
The Hawks are now 1-0 overall and in district play with the team set to travel to play Harris-Lake Park on Friday.
