Parish Auction to be held online this year

Thursday, July 30, 2020

Remsen St. Mary’s 35th Annual Parish Auction will look a little different this year than in past years. Because of the current pandemic, this year, the Parish Auction will be an online-only auction. According to a press release about the auction, “People wishing to bid on items will need to register to bid, by visiting proxibid.com. You can sign up at https:// www.proxibid.com. You will need a credit/debit card to secure an account, however, you are strongly encouraged to make payments directly to Remsen St. Mary's Parish via check or cash, otherwise a credit card fee will be applied. Bidding will OPEN on Friday, July 31, and CLOSE at 12 p.m. on Sunday, August 9. Bids for different lots will start closing, starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday, August 9. Items can be picked up at the Remsen St. Mary's Middle/High School from 2-4 p.m. on August 9. We encourage EVERYONE, near and far to join in on the bidding fun, as we'd be happy to add the cost of shipping to your auction purchase. Please feel free to reach out to the rectory or an auction committee member if you need assistance.”

Items for St. Mary’s Parish Auction will be on display at the RSM Middle/High School Cafeteria on Saturday, August 1 and 8, after the 4 p.m. Mass. Members of the Auction Committee will be available during this time till 7 p.m. to help with registering on proxibid.

Also on Saturday, August 8, a “Brown Bag BBQ” consisting of a BBQ sandwich, chips, cookie and drink will be handed out with a free will offering right after the 4 p.m. Mass.

Raffle tickets for cash prizes are available at American Bank, Iowa State Bank, Remsen Golf Course, and the RSM Rectory. To purchase a ticket at the rectory, please call before coming at 786-1437.

Some local businesses are also generously donating to the 2020 Remsen St. Mary's Parish Auction by running a “Paying It Forward”campaign. Simply thank them for “Paying It Forward” to the “Remsen St. Mary's Parish Auction” when placing orders and a portion of those sales will be donated back to the auction committees to purchase items for the online auction. Mrs. B's Convenience & Liquor Stores, Sammy G's Brick House, and Klein On 9 have already ran their campaigns on different weekends in July. Golden Pheasant will have their campaign on July 31, August 1 and August 2.

According to a letter from Father McCarthy, “The profits received from the auction help us meet our fixed costs and general upkeep. For example: heat in the winter, lights and utilities, buildings and grounds. These obligations are a fact of life and are always before the parish needing to be paid.”

Another way to view items for the auction is by visiting the“Remsen St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church” Facebook page. Members of the auction committee will be posting photos of auction donations as they come in to the Facebook photo album titled “2020 Auction Donations”.

Auction Committee co-chairs include Angie and Lee Galles, and Sarah and Brett Garvin. Melany Roling is in charge of Raffle Tickets.
