Happy Siesta Heath Care Center in Remsen has a new administrator in Jessica List. She takes over the position after the passing of the previous administrator, Lisa Loring. List started her position on Monday, June 22, 2020 and has “loved every minute of it”.

List grew up in Estherville and now resides in Cherokee with her husband, Eric (a native to the Remsen area), and ten-year-old daughter, Sophia.

List stated, “In our free time, Eric and I like to travel, play with our dog Willy, golf, and spend time with family.”

List traveled a lot for her job before coming to Happy Siesta, “Before coming to work for Happy Siesta, I was a traveling nursing home administrator. I helped nursing homes that were struggling get back on track and helped train in new administrators across Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, and Georgia. I truly loved helping new leaders find their passion for long term care. I mean, who doesn't love to see the smiles on the people who help build our future.”

When asked what she likes most about her job, List explained, “I have the opportunity to improve someone’s life every day. The work we do in long term care is very hard but very rewarding. Taking care of our most venerable population gives me a sense of pride. They have accomplished so much in their lives.”

What she looks forward to most while working at Happy Siesta is “being close to friends and family members”.

List’s sister inspired List's choice of work in the healthcare field, “I had a sister who battled bone cancer for ten years. I knew I wanted to do something in healthcare to help give back, but I wasn't sure what it was. When I moved back home after her passing, I was approached by an old friend who thought I would make a great Assisted Living Director. I thought she was crazy, but after the first day of work, I knew I had found my passion. It wasn't long after that, and I was in school to get my license for Nursing Home Administration.”

Welcome to Remsen!
