MMCRU softball concludes season

CLEGHORN ó MMCRU got out to a 2-0 lead, but a four-run fourth inning for Fort Dodge St. Edmond was the difference in a 4-2 season-ending loss for the Royals in Class 1A regional softball play.

Mya Holmes hit a solo home run and Haley Schwarz drove in the teamís other run on a 2-for-4 night with a single and double for MMCRU.

The Gaels countered with a home run from Ella Vratny while Ashlyn Headlee drove in a pair and Jocy Timmerman knocked in another on a pair of hits.

Vratny pitched the win in the circle for the Gaels with a pair of strikeouts. Molly Reuter took the loss for MMCRU.

The Royals end their season with a 4-7 record with Kaelee Letsche, Faith Olson, Nicole Specht and Haley Schwarz donning a Royals uniform for the final time.

St. Edmond (6-9) will travel to play Akron-Westfield (15-2) in Fridayís (July 17) regional semifinal. The Westerners defeated Harris-Lake Park 13-0 in three innings to pair up with the Gaels in the bracket.
