No. 2 RSM rolls past HMS with Carter Schorg’s perfect game
REMSEN — One of the contenders for a state title got off to a good start in their postseason opener, beating Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 12-0 in five innings on Saturday, July 11. The Class 1A No. 2 ranked Remsen St. Mary’s team scored in all four of their turns at the plate and held their War Eagle Conference foe without a baserunner in the win.

RSM got out to a 5-0 lead after an inning. Spencer Schorg led off first with a double while Skyler Waldschmitt drew a one-out walk. Both advanced on a wild pitch, but HMS was able to get the second out of the inning by striking out Jaxon Bunkers. RSM came through with five runs with two outs with the first two scoring on a 2 RBI single for Xavier Galles. Later in the inning, Brady Homan and Levi Waldschmitt added RBI base hits.
RSM added three more runs in the second, starting with an RBI double from Skyler Waldschmitt. Galles brought home a run on a sacrifice fly and Carter Schorg singled home another run to make it 8-0.
Bunkers tacked on a 2 RBI single in the fourth and Seth Nelson and Damen Brownmiller added the final touches to the 12-0 win with RBI base hits in the fourth.
The win is the 10th straight in the series against HMS with six of those being shutout wins. RSM won the regular season meeting by an 11-0 score in five innings, a game in which Carter Schorg gave up just one hit and struck out six HMS batters.
