MMCRU softball suspends season due to COVID-19
MARCUS — The MMCRU softball team is the latest local team to have their season shut down due to a positive case of COVID-19.
In a statement released Monday morning, June 22, the school district stated that a student-athlete on the high school softball team tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
The statement went on to say: “The district has been in constant communication with public health over the past couple of days. All student-athletes, parents, and coaches have been contacted with how to proceed following guidance from public health. No spectators were exposed. We have encouraged our players and coaches who were in close contact with the student-athlete to quarantine themselves for 14 days from last exposure and to be tested for COVID-19.”
The earliest practices or games could resume for the MMCRU softball team is Wednesday, July 1.
MMCRU started the season 0-4 and were scheduled to host No. 8 Gehlen Catholic on Monday, June 22. Both games of that series have been called off as the Gehlen baseball team suspended their season due to a positive COVID-19 case on Friday, June 19.
The MMCRU baseball team is currently scheduled to continue their season without interruption.
