A-W faces South O’Brien, Woodbury Central

PAULLINA/MOVILLE/AKRON — The Akron-Westfield baseball team won their third consecutive game to start the season by topping South O’Brien 10-0 in six innings Thursday.

Jack Anderson tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for the Westerners.

A-W collected seven hits and nine walks in the win. Tyson Fairbanks homered for the team in the game as he also walked. Laytin Koch had the team’s only multi-hit game with a pair of singles as he also drew a walk. Aric Allard and Jader Briggs were each walked twice in the game.

Carter Wilken had a 3 RBI day with a single and walk.

The team dropped a walk-off 10-9 game to Woodbury Central in non-conference action Saturday. A-W scored seven runs in the fourth inning to pull in front 9-5, but gave up runs in three of the next four innings including two in the bottom of the seventh.

Sam Mullinix led the Westerners in that game as he picked up 3 RBI with a home run.

The A-W softball team topped Woodbury Central at home by an 11-1 score in six innings Saturday. The Westerners, up to No. 10 in Class 1A, were led by Hailey Wilken and Katie Johnson with three hits apiece. Chloee Colt added two hits and a pair of walks.

Natalie Nielsen struck out eight in a complete game effort.

The Westerners will play Harris-Lake Park on Monday.
