Nielsen pitches no-hitter for Coach Coltís 600th win
AKRON ó Natalie Nielsen struck out 10 in a four inning no-hitter Wednesday as Akron-Westfield topped Unity Christian 12-0 for Head Coach Todd Coltís 600th career win.
The No. 12 Lady Westerners pushed across one run in the first, four in the second, two more in the third and finished off the game with five runs in the fourth in the victory.
Hailey Wilken led the offense with three hits and picked up a team-high 5 RBI. Katie Johnson added the other multi-hit game as she drove in one.
Nielsen helped her own cause with a 3 RBI game. Her 10 strikeouts in the circle was two shy of her career high which she had as an eighth grader against West Sioux in a full seven inning game.
The A-W baseball team finished off the sweep against the Knights with a 10-2 victory. The Westerners pulled away in the middle innings with two runs in the fourth and six in the fifth. The game was tied 2-2 after three innings.
Jack Anderson led the team by reaching base four times on two hits and a pair of walks. He scored twice and drove in two. Jack Terpstra added a single and double to a walk as he also drove in two. Kasey Nielsen had another 2 RBI game for the team.
Daytona Foley pitched the first two innings for the team, giving up two runs on two hits, two walks and two hit batters. He also struck out a pair. Sam Mullinix picked up the win, throwing five innings of no-hit relief while striking out 10.
Both A-W teams moved to 2-0 on the season with the wins.
