Panthers pull away from GTRA
KINGSLEY — Class 1A No. 6 ranked Kingsley-Pierson pulled away from Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Monday in the season opener for both teams as the Panthers claimed a 52-40 win.
K-P led by three points entering the fourth quarter before pulling away across the final eight minutes.
“It wasn’t the prettiest game, but we were able to make adjustments,” K-P Head Coach Nicole Goodwin said. “Once we started playing defense, we were able to get some things going in transition.”
Madison Hough was tough to stop for the Titans as she ended as the game’s leading scorer with 26 of her team’s 40 points.
The Panthers had just one player score in double digits in the game as Jayde Barto went 7-of-19 from the floor for 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to earn a double-double.
Halle Collins came off the bench for the next most points for the Panthers with eight as half of those came at the free-throw line where the team went a combined 10-of-12.
Brooklyn Beery and Chloe Peschau also came off the bench to score six points apiece.
McKenzie Goodwin led the team with 13 rebounds. Abbi Bailey tied Barto for the most steals with three apiece.
The Panthers will play again Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Lawton-Bronson.
