Bulldogs close regular season with split of tourney matches
SIOUX CITY ó The Le Mars Community volleyball team completed the regular season with a split in their four matches played at Sioux City North on Saturday.
The team picked up a 2-1 win over Lawton-Bronson. The Eagles won the middle set 21-17 with the Bulldogs taking the other sets by 21-15 and 15-11 scores.
Pypr Stoeffler led the way with 14 of the teamís 30 kills as she hit for a .480 efficiency. She also had three ace serves to top the team and was second with 16 digs.
Jecenta Sargisson had the most digs with 20 and was second on the team with six kills and two aces.
The Bulldogs added a 2-1 win over Sioux Falls Washington. Le Mars won the first set 21-16, dropped the second set 21-18 and won the third set 15-12.
Sargisson topped the team with seven kills as well as 10 digs.
Kady Leusink and Kylie Dreckman were the only other players with multiple kills with three apiece as the pair also led the team in blocks with three and two, respectively.
Stoeffler was able to score five ace serves as she was a perfect 19-of-19 serving in the match.
The Bulldogs lost to a pair of ranked teams including Class 2A top-ranked Western Christian. The Wolfpack came away with a sweep of 21-7, 21-8. Sargisson and Stoeffler tallied three kills apiece to lead the team. Brooke Haage had seven assists and matched Sargisson for most digs with four.
Class 3A No. 15 Sioux Center beat the Bulldogs 21-15, 21-14. Sargisson and Stoeffler were the only players with multiple kills once again with four apiece. Alivia Van Otterloo had the teamís only ace serve of the match.
Le Mars concludes the regular season with an 18-18 record. The team will begin regional play on Wednesday as they host former Lakes Conference foe Storm Lake (8-19). It will be the first meeting between the two teams this year.
