Lady Panthers beat Midgets twice at Storm Lake tourney
STORM LAKE ó The Kingsley-Pierson volleyball team split their final four matches of the regular season at a tournament hosted by Storm Lake on Saturday. The Panthers secured the two wins against Estherville-Lincoln Central.
One of the wins went to three sets with the teams splitting 21-16 and 21-18 scores before the Panthers clinched the match with a 15-10 win in the third. Rachel Bohle led the team with eight kills, followed by Chloe Peschau with six kills for the team. Peschau and Emilee Beekman led the team with two blocks apiece with Abbi Bailey helping the defense with a team-high six digs.
Hayden Dunne had nine assists which was most on the team and was one of three players, along with Peschau and McKenzie Goodwin, to finish with two ace serves.
The Panthers beat the Midgets by a 21-13, 21-14 sweep in their other meeting. Bohle had six kills, eight digs and two ace serves to lead the team in all three categories. Goodwin added four kills and Peschau had three more as both hit for a .500 kill efficiency.
K-P dropped a close three-set match to the host school, winning the second set 21-11 but falling short in the other sets by 21-19 and 15-9 scores. Bohle had nine kills and hit .467 for the match to lead the team. Anna Bubke was next on the team with six kills and had two of the teamís three ace serves.
Class 4A Boone entered the day with just one win, but got another with a sweep of the 1A Panthers by scores of 21-12 and 21-18. Goodwin and Peschau had four kills apiece to lead the Panthers as they hit for a negative kill efficiency as a team for the match. Peschau added five blocks while Bohle and Shayley Haggin had two apiece. Bailey, Bohle and Goodwin tied for the lead with six digs apiece. Emy Benson topped the team with six assists.
Kingsley-Pierson ends the regular season with a 14-20 record. They will host Remsen St. Maryís (10-18) in the first round of regionals on Tuesday. The two teams have not met yet this season.
