WC-KP girls win at home course

KINGSLEY — The WC-KP girls cross country team defended the home turf at Brookside Golf Course on Tuesday, winning by over 50 points in the team standings. The team had six runners within the top nine at the meet.

Erika Kuntz led the way with a winning time of 21:18.65. She ended 26 seconds in front of the second place runner. Sarahy Hamman placed third for WC-KP as she concluded two seconds after the 22-minute mark.

Sarah and Mary Putze ended back-to-back for the fifth and sixth place spots. Sarah finished the race in a time of 22:13.97 and Mary followed with a time of 22:24.37.

Kalyn Cameron and Lynsey Countryman finished on either side of 23 minutes in the eighth and ninth place spots. Cameron finished with a time of 22:58.01 and Countryman crossed the finish line with a time of 23:05.19.

The final varsity runner for the team was Gracia Widman who took 27th in a time of 24:36.53.

A pair of other local runners also placed in the top 10 in the race. MMCRU’s Kaitlyn Goth took the fourth place spot with a time of 22:10.17 as the only varsity runner for her team.

Maria Russell grabbed the final spot in the top 10 for Remsen St. Mary’s as she ended with a time of 23:16.25. Teammate Emma Galles finished 30th with a time of 25:28.65.

Gehlen Catholic finished in third place in the team standings. Their first four runners all finished in the top half of the 47 runners in varsity, running in two pairs. The first pair saw Addison Weber and Harlie Tesch finish about a second apart for the 13th and 14th places. Weber concluded in 23:29.46 with Tesch right behind. Patricia and Kailey Sitzmann ended within three-tenths of a second of each other in the 19th and 20th spots. Patricia clocked a time of 23:45.14 with Kailey a fraction behind. Gehlen’s final time included in the team score was a 32nd place finish for Addison Arens who ended in 25:51.42.

Hinton did not have any girls compete in the varsity portion of the meet.

Team scores: WC-KP 20, Lawton-Bronson 71, Gehlen Catholic 82, West Monona 85, South O’Brien 95, West Harrison 154.
