RSM volleyball wins two at tournament
CORRECTIONVILLE ó The Remsen St. Maryís volleyball team picked up a pair of wins at a tournament hosted by River Valley on Saturday. The teamís two wins came against Boyer Valley and Storm Lake St. Maryís.
The Hawks won in three sets over Boyer Valley as they claimed the first set 21-11, but dropped the second set 21-16. RSM took the deciding set by a 15-10 score. Lexie Delperdang had four kills for the RSM team which hit .313 for the match. Ana Conover, Brittany Johnson and Carly Ortmann added three kills apiece for the team. Sydney Schroeder finished with 11 assists and also had an ace serve. Johnson added the other ace to go along with the teamís only block of the match. Ortmann and Gracyn Schroeder ended with six digs apiece to lead the team.
RSM had faced SLSM a few weeks prior at the CYO tournament, earning a 2-0 win. It was the same outcome on Saturday as the Hawks won by scores of 23-21 and 21-10. Johnson had four kills to lead the way as she was the only RSM player with a positive kill efficiency with a .286 rate. Conover, Delperdang and Ashley Willman added two kills apiece with even attacking success rates. Sydney Schroeder again had 11 assists, but boosted her ace total up to five out of her 12 serve attempts. Ortmann added two aces and Willman snuck in one more.
The Hawks beat Alta-Aurelia at the Warriorsí home tournament the week prior, but fell in this meeting by a 2-0 score. It was a tight match with Alta-Aurelia winning by the minimum in both sets by 21-19 and 22-20 scores.
Johnson finished with four kills and Delperdang added two more as the only players on the team with multiple kills. Johnson was also the leader in blocks with three, one more than Ortmann. Sydney Schroeder finished with all three of the teamís ace serves on a perfect 11-of-11 serving match. She had all nine of the teamís assists.
River Valley doubled their win total with a pair of wins at their own tournament including a 21-14, 21-18 victory over the Hawks. Delperdang had three of RSMís 10 kills. Conover and Johnson added two apiece.
A Woodbury Central team who entered the day with just four wins ran the table at the tournament with five victories including a 21-5, 21-11 win over the Hawks. RSM struggled in the match as they hit for a negative kill efficiency with Delperdang the only player in positive territory. Conover, Johnson and Ortmann finished with seven digs apiece in the match.
Remsen St. Maryís moves to 9-16 overall on the season. They will return to action on Thursday with their final home game of the regular season as they host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in War Eagle Conference action.
