Hawks swept by South O’Brien
PAULLINA — A strong hitting and serving performance from South O’Brien earned them a 3-0 sweep over Remsen St. Mary’s in War Eagle Conference volleyball action Monday. The Wolverines claimed the match by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-8.
South O’Brien hit .458 as a team for the match which was better than the .107 rate in which the Hawks were able to complete kills. Taryn Hintz led the Wolverines with 14 kills as she hit for a .520 efficiency. Sydney Struve added seven kills on a .500 hitting night and Anna Friedrichsen tallied six kills in seven attempts for a efficiency rate of .857.
Ashley Willman had the most efficient match for RSM as she completed kills on half of her six attempts. Brittany Johnson tied for most kills as she also ended with three.
The Wolverines played aggressive with their serves, successfully completing at a rate of just .822, but also picking up 21 aces. Friedrichsen and Struve led the way with five apiece with Skye Rehder adding four. A total of seven different players had an ace for the Wolverines.
RSM completed just one ace serve which came from setter Sydney Schroeder who had all seven of the team’s assists. Gracyn Schroeder led the Hawks with nine digs and Carly Ortmann had the lone block as the team’s defensive leaders in the match.
Remsen St. Mary’s falls to 7-13 after the loss. The team returns to action Saturday at a tournament hosted by River Valley.
