Remsen St. Mary’s blasts Boyer Valley
DUNLAP — Remsen St. Mary’s carried the momentum of a last-second win into the next game which turned into a 73-14 blowout against a Boyer Valley team who had beaten Ar-We-Va by a similar lopsided score of 72-28 the week prior.
RSM’s offense just couldn’t be slowed down with numerous players finding the end zone for touchdowns as the Hawks entered the game at No. 4 in the Iowa AP 8-player rankings.
Blaine Harpenau was a perfect 10-of-10 in the passing game, throwing for 174 yards and four touchdowns. His 10 passes were spread out among six different receivers. Austin Jensen had the most catches, pulling down three targets for 95 yards. Two of the three catches went for touchdowns.
Skyler Waldschmitt added two catches including a 27-yard touchdown and Damen Brownmiller had the other scoring catch on a 16-yard play.
The ground game was just as effective with four different players picking up scoring runs. Brenden Fisch led the team in rushing with 103 yards on nine carries, the biggest chunk of which came on a 65-yard touchdown run.
Harpenau carried the ball five times for 85 yards and two touchdowns, the longest of which was a 58-yard scamper.
Jeremy Koenck pounded in a pair of scores from within the 5-yard line with a total of 42 yards on nine carries. Alex Schroeder had the final rushing score with a 3-yard run.
The team added another touchdown on a kickoff return from Skyler Waldschmitt on a 55-yard return.
Remsen St. Mary’s is now 2-0 as they enter district play. The Hawks will host Kingsley-Pierson (0-2) in their homecoming game.
