Vernon E. Renken

On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, Vernon E. Renken, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at his home in Sun City West, Arizona. He was 87 years old.

Vern was born in Le Mars, to Carl H. and Marie M. (Ahrendt) Renken. He was raised and educated in the Le Mars area, graduating in 1950.

Vernon joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Darleen (Wells) on Sept. 15, 1951, and the couple had five children.

After being honorably discharged, he worked the family farm for 12 years. He joined Farm Bureau Insurance in Le Mars, later moving to Fort Dodge as agency manager for Webster and Humboldt counties. After leaving Farm Bureau Insurance after 26 years, he worked with OíConnor Insurance Sales in Fort Dodge until retirement.

In 1974, Vern married Fran (Devine) and they resided at the Fort Dodge Country Club for many years. Vern was usually found on the golf course and loved the game. He was active in many organizations including Chamber of Commerce celebrating new businesses in our community.

He is survived by his wife Fran, of 45 years; five children, Daniel of Delray Beach, Florida, Julie of Sun City West, Arizona, David of Columbia, Maryland, Thomas (Ginger), Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Joni Weinbaum of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ramona (Bob) Lang of Le Mars.

He is preceded in death by parents Carl and Marie Renken; brothers Kenneth, Herbert and Eugene; a granddaughter, Hannah M. Renken; and grandson, Steven Maxwell Clemens.

Celebra≠tion of Vernonís life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at, Life Church, 8765 W. Kelton Lane, Building A2 #140, Peoria, Arizona, 85382.
