Hinton opens postseason with win
HINTON ó The Class 2A No. 9 ranked Hinton baseball team entered the postseason in a bit of a slump. The team dropped back-to-back games to end the regular season, the first case of consecutive losses for the team all summer, with defeats at the hands of West Sioux and Class 1A No. 8 Kingsley-Pierson. The Blackhawks put those losses behind them in their first game in district play, beating Missouri Valley 10-0 in five innings.
Hinton scored a pair of runs in the first and added another in the third before ending the game early with seven runs in the fifth inning. Conner Lange took the loss for Missouri Valley as he gave up the first two runs in his lone inning of work. His teammates werenít able to slow down Hintonís bats any better as three other pitchers all failed at keeping the Blackhawks off their brand-new scoreboard at Diediker Field.
Hinton drew 10 free passes and came away with seven hits as everyone who came to the plate reached at least once.
Braden Vonk and Aiden Brock led the team with a pair of hits apiece. Vonk knocked out a home run for one of his hits as he led the team with 3 RBI. Brock had the teamís other extra-base hit with a double as he also reached on a single and walk. Once on base he stole a pair of bases and scored twice.
Turner Schmitt ended with 2 RBI as he reached on a hit and walk. Tate Kounkel and Bryley Burgad had the other two hits for the team. Andrew Hessa led the way with three walks while Tanner Eilts reached on two free passes.
Kyle Brighton moved to 5-0 on the season as he threw the complete game victory on the mound. He scattered three hits and a walk while fanning six Missouri Valley batters in the contest.
Hinton improves to 25-4 on the season and advances to Saturdayís district final which will be hosted at Diediker Field at 7:00 p.m. The Blackhawks will play Alta-Aurelia (17-9) who topped MVAOCOU 8-5 in the first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks faced Alta-Aurelia once already this season, earning an 11-1 victory in five innings in a game played the first week of the season.
