Blackhawks earn sweep of Unity

HINTON — The Hinton baseball team had their toughest game since the season opener, but managed to come away with a 4-2 win over Unity Christian on Wednesday as part of a Blackhawk sweep of the Knights.

The Blackhawks were held to a season-low in scoring and gave up more than one run for the first time since the 5-3 win over Storm Lake to begin the season. Unity ace Micah Goslinga kept the Blackhawks on their heels for much of the night as he took a complete game loss by allowing four unearned runs. Hinton managed just a handful of hits against him with doubles as part of two-hit games for Tate Kounkel and Turner Schmitt leading the Blackhawks.

Aiden Brock did his job on the mound as he allowed the game-tying runs in the third, but completed the game with 12 strikeouts as he kept the Knights off the board in their other six turns at the plate.

The Hinton softball team pounded the winless Knights in a 15-3 which lasted just three innings. The Blackhawks scored all of their runs in the opening frame, getting nine off starter Sofia Sandbulte who made it through just one out before being replaced by Paige De Boom who gave up the other six runs.

Hinton walked eight times and had six hits in the game. Alyssa Fischer was the only player with multiple hits as she doubled and led the team with 3 RBI.

Jadyn Case gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one.

“We rallied back after a tough couple of games to pick up a win,” Hinton softball coach Jennifer Jacobs-List said. “Defensively I would like to see us be more solid but offensively we started hitting the ball harder. We still have a long way to go, but tonight was a good start.”
