Lady Bulldogs fall to North again, blast ranked Westwood

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

SIOUX CITY The Le Mars Community softball team split their games Saturday, losing to Sioux City North in the second time in as many days, but winning over Class 1A No. 7 Westwood.

After throwing Brook Berkenpas at the Stars on Friday, the Bulldogs went with Alivia Milbrodt in the circle Saturday hoping for a different result. Unfortunately, the Stars tagged Milbrodt for nine runs in five innings in a 9-7 loss.

Milbrodt did help her own cause in the top of the second with a 2 RBI single which put the Bulldogs in front, but that was the only lead Le Mars held. Brooke Haage continued her hot start to the season with a triple in the third as she scored later in the inning. She also drove in a pair with a single in the sixth. Kady Leusink had 2 RBI of her own on singles in the fourth and sixth.

The Bulldogs blasted Westwood 14-3 in five innings in their other game. An eight-run third was the best inning of the game although the team did score in four of their turns at the plate. The eight-run inning saw 11 batters come to the plate. A pair of errors started off the frame, but there were plenty of hits as well with a 2 RBI triple from Annie Ellis a highlight of the inning. Emily Carlson added her own triple in the fifth as Haage knocked her home with a single.

Berkenpas earned the win as she struck out four.
