Hinton baseball scores 11 runs in two separate wins
HINTON/PAULLINA — The Hinton baseball team scored 11 runs in back-to-back games Thursday and Friday in a pair of wins to push their season record to 5-0. The Blackhawks have scored in double digits in three consecutive games while falling a run short of that in the game prior.
Hinton picked up an 11-1 win in five innings over Class 2A No. 8 Alta-Aurelia in non-conference action Thursday. The team scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to conclude the game early.
Aiden Brock threw all five innings as he scattered pair of hits and walks for a lone run while striking out six. He helped his own cause at the plate as he reached on a pair of hits and a walk, swiped three bases and scored twice. He also led the team with 3 RBI.
No other player had more than one hit for Hinton but six players recorded a hit and nine different players reached on a walk in the game.
South O’Brien allowed 11 runs for the second straight night after giving up the same amount to West Lyon. Hinton jumped on South O’Brien starter Case Moermond for eight of those runs and added three more against Taylor Steffens to end the game in the fifth inning with an 11-0 score.
Tate Linton took the win on the mound as he mowed down 13 batters via strikeout in his five inning complete game. He gave up just two hits.
Andrew Hessa and Tanner Eilts led the Hinton offense with two hits apiece as Hessa knocked out one of two doubles in the game as he finished with 2 RBI.
All but one of the starting nine in the lineup reached either by hit or walk.
Hinton will get both of their games against rival Gehlen Catholic out of the way early this season as the team will travel to face the Jays on Monday. Hinton won the first meeting between the two teams by a 17-0 score in four innings.
