Blackhawks allow no hits in pair of shutouts against Whiting
HINTON — The pitching staffs for the Hinton baseball and softball teams allowed no hits to visiting Whiting on Wednesday in a pair of blowout wins.
Jadyn Case threw a five-inning complete game shutout in the softball team’s 11-0 win. Case struck out eight batters with a walk being her lone blemish of the game.
The batting order backed her up with multiple runs in all four at-bats. Shelbie Young knocked out a pair of doubles as she had 4 RBI to lead the team. Peyton George added a double as part of her two hits and Bella Badar reached second base on her lone hit of the night.
Hinton softball head coach Jennifer Jacobs-List said it was a good start to the season.
“We came out and took advantage of good hitting opportunities and made the most of our at-bats throughout the game,” she said. “Defensively we didn’t have any errors and Jadyn had a good night in the circle.”
The Hinton baseball team relied on two pitchers to get the no-hitter in a full-length game. Justin Kirwan threw the first three innings as he struck out five and walked one in earning the victory. Carson Turner threw the final four frames with as many strikeouts and half as many walks.
The offense broke out for eight runs in the third, but had just one other run in the game. Tate Kounkel hit a home run and finished with a team-best 4 RBI for the team. Andrew Hessa added a double in his three-hit night while Bryley Burgad also had a two-bagger. Kirwan was the only player besides Hessa with multiple hits as he went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and a pair of steals while scoring once.
Both Hinton teams are 1-0 to begin the season following Wednesday.
