Let the caps fly.... It’s graduation week in Plymouth County

PLYMOUTH CO. — The 2019 senior classes of all seven Plymouth County schools will celebrate their commencement this Sunday, May 19.

Le Mars Community

Le Mars Community High School has 157 students graduating this year at 3 p.m. in the LCHS Competition Gym.

This year’s commencement speaker will be LCHS Senior Keegan Pippett.

The class color is red with a rose as their class flower. The seniors chose a quote from Arnold Schwarzenegger for their class motto, “Just remember, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets.”

Gehlen Catholic

Gehlen Catholic Schools’ commencement will celebrate 32 seniors at 12:30 p.m. in the Deb Campbell Memorial Gym.

The senior class welcomes commencement speaker Laurie Kellen, who serves as the 7-12 religion teacher.

After the ceremony, the graduating class will receive guests along Memory Lane.

Their class colors are green and gold with the sunflower as their class flower. Their motto is, “We grew together — now it is our freedom to go our separate ways and give what we can to the world.”


Hinton Community Schools has 62 seniors graduating at 2 p.m. in their high school gym.

Valedictorian, Travis Miller, salutatorian, Jaden Anderson, and class president, Fletcher Farrer, will give speeches during the ceremony.

Hinton’s 2018 senior class chose silver and navy as their class colors as well as the lotus for their class flower. Their class motto is, “We cannot discover new oceans unless we have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”


Akron-Westfield High School celebrates the graduation of 40 students — two of which are juniors — at this year’s commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. at the high school.

The seniors chose Aaron Hartman, Brooke Koele, Nash Lininger, and Lilly Stabe to serve as the speakers.

Their class flower is the white rose with red, black and silver as their class colors. Their motto is, “Wings to show you what you can become, roots to remind you where you’re from.”


MMCRU is saying goodbye to 35 students in their commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. in the MMCRU High School gym in Marcus.

Valedictorian Daymion George will give a speech during the ceremony, as will salutatorian Cody Dias.

Their class flower is also the white rose with purple and silver as their class colors. They chose, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory,” as their class motto.

Remsn St. Mary’s

Remsen St. Mary’s has 13 seniors graduating at 2 p.m. in the Lorne Nilles Memorial Gym. Baccalaureate will be held at 6:30 p.m., tonight (May 15), also in the gym.

They chose pastel yellow and pastel blue as their class colors with the white rose as their class flower. “Chase your dreams, but always know the road that’ll lead you home again,” is their class motto.


Kingsley-Pierson Community School District will hold their commencement ceremony for 31 students at 2 p.m. in the Kingsley gymnasium.

Valedictorian Jessi Inman and salutatorian Tyler Sitzmann will give speeches.

The seniors chose a red rose for their class flower, with imperial black as their class color. “The hardest choices require the strongest wills,” is their class motto.
