Unity bests RSM, MMCRU in golf duals

MARCUS — Unity Christian had the top team score in girls and boys dual golf action against Remsen St. Mary’s and MMCRU on Friday, May 3.

RSM came up three strokes short of the Knights in the boys dual with a 170. That score was good enough for a 16 stroke win over the host Royals.

Will Galles of RSM had the best overall score of the day to take individual medalist honors in both meets. He was just one-over par for the day with a 37 round. He came away with three birdies, all on par-4 holes, in his first overall medalist performance of the season. He hit on the fairway on five of seven holes and needed just 13 putts to complete his round. He ended a stroke better than Unity’s Kolin Kroeze and five strokes under MMCRU’s Ethan Riedemann who were his closest competitors.

Spencer Schorg shot a 42 for the Hawks which tied for the second best score in the match against the Royals but was fourth on the leaderboard against the Knights. He ended with three birdies on his round after starting with a pair of 7’s on his first two holes.

Carter Schorg added a 44 and Austin Schwickerath tallied a 47 for RSM’s final two scores included in the team total.

MMCRU’s final three scores came in order with Cade Pepper shooting a 47, Andrew Prescott carding a 48 and Dean Jenness tallying a 49.

The RSM girls shot a 201 which won their match against the Royals who shot a 242, but wasn’t low enough to catch league leader Unity who posted a 185 team score.

Tori Galles was the overall medalist in both duals with a 41 on the day. She has won medalist honors against six league opponents this season. She scored even on five different holes as she used just 14 putts to finish her round.

In the match against Unity, Justine Malenke was the runner-up with a 42 while Sidney Tritz claimed runner-up honors against MMCRU with a 48. The Hawks completed their team score with a 55 from Megan Wurth and a 57 from Kelsey Behrens.

MMCRU’s best score was a 49 from Taylor Schlenger. The rest of the team’s scores were above 60.

MMCRU is winless entering the conference tournament at The Ridge in Sioux Center on Tuesday, May 7 while RSM currently sits in third place in the league standings.
