Phelps sets facility record in throwing wins
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Kiana Phelps finished just three inches off her lifetime best throw in picking up a discus victory at the Oregon State High Performance Meet held Friday and Saturday.
The Kingsley, Iowa native had the top throw out of 20 competitors as she spun the discus a facility record 54.68 meters (179-feet-4-inches) to win by four and a half meters. The previous-best mark at the Whyte Track and Field Center was 54.42 meters. Three of her throws surpassed 175 feet in her first win of outdoor season.
Phelps also came away with a win in the shot put with a throw of 15.38 meters (50-feet-5.5-inches) as she was able to overtake University of Oregon teammate Ronna Stone who ended with the second place throw of 15.14 meters.
