Fisch places at AAU Kids State Championship

DES MOINES ó Area athletes took to the mat at the Iowa AAU Kids State Championship held at Wells Fargo Arena on February 23 and 24.

Remsenís Brenden Fisch competed for the Siouxland Wrestling Academy where he took second place in the 7th-8th grade 160-pound division. Fisch started with a pair of quick pins as he won his first in 34 seconds and the second in 26 ticks of the clock. He got a bit of a challenge from Jack Schwenn of Gold Medal Wrestling but managed a 5-2 win. Schwenn pulled to within one on a third period reversal before Fisch scored one of his own a few seconds later. It was another quick one in the semifinals where he pinned Cade Bennethum in 29 seconds. Fisch earned a second period escape in the title match against Mccrae Hagarty of the Charles City Mat Club, but Hagarty turned his choice of bottom into a reversal in the third and ended up winning by fall.
