Royals fall victim to Panthers

The MMCRU varsity boysí basketball team closed out the regular season in Remsen against the Kingsley-Pierson Panthers on Friday, February 8. The first meeting between these teams was a thrilling one point victory for the Panthers.

The first quarter showed signs of another close game in the making, as both teams got hot from the field. Cade Pepper and Joel Johnson connected on their first attempts from beyond the arc, while Andrew Prescott and Jordan Marks found success at the rim early on. The Panthers also had a hot hand, which made the score 19-19 after a quarter of play.

The Royals went cold in the second, scoring just six points compared to Kingsley-Piersonís 22. At the break, the visitors held a 41-25 advantage.

In the second half, the Royals started to warm up from the field, but the Panthers attack was too strong to overcome, as the lead grew to 21 after three.

Both teams emptied the bench late in the fourth due to the comfortable Kingsley lead. At the final horn, the Panthers came out victorious 72-47. The loss for the Royals was the fourth in a row, while the Panthers extended their win streak to three.

Nathan Keck led the Panther attack with 26 points on the night. Jackson Howe tallied 12 points and five assists, and Tyler Sitzmann hauled in 10 rebounds. As a team, the Panthers shot nearly 50 percent from the field.

The Royals were led by Prescott and Marks, with 11 and 10 points respectively. Marks also led the team in rebounds with 10, and Johnson had four assists.

This was the final regular season game for the 2018-2019 boys basketball squad.
