Royals reign over Westerners
The MMCRU girls’ basketball team headed to Akron last Friday on January 18 to face the Westerners. The trip resulted in another win for the Royals, giving them a 12-4 record on the season. The Royals and the Westerners played nearly head to head in the first half, as MMCRU was only a point ahead with the score of 18-17. They remained close in score until the end. The final score was 53-45, Royals leaving with the win.
Looking at individual stats, Emily Dreckman had a total of 20 points, including four three pointers, and 11 rebounds for the night. With the second most points with 19, was Taylor Harpenau. Ellie Hilbrands had 10 total rebounds. Jaylen Bork had a free throw accuracy of 100%.
Scoring for Akron-Westfield was Natalie Nielson with 12 points and six rebounds. Brooke Koele and Jaden Harris followed her in points as they each had 11 points for the game.
The MMCRU girls out rebounded their opponent 29-20. The Royals made 14/20 of their free throws while the Westerners made 5/13.
Emily Dreckman shared, “I think the game went well. It was a fun game and we played well together.”
Taylor Harpenau added, “We played good defense against them and talked good.”
